Okay, ya’ll. It’s confession time.
I played hooky for more or less all of NYFW this season. Despite the energy I’ve always felt surging through me when new spring styles stomp down the runway, despite receiving invites to exciting presentations, despite telling you what to bring to the shows, despite an inspiring kick-off show by Giles Deacon, despite loving the rush of this fashion holiday, I bailed out.
Why, you ask? Simple: It didn’t feel worth it this time. Rather than excited, I felt red-alert exhausted. The prospect of plugging away at my current projects and organizing my (currently bananas) life felt worlds more important than reporting on the same things major fashion sites were already hemorrhaging by the hour.
With a brand new job on my schedule as of last week, a back-to-back runway show and holiday market coming up for Bombay Mermaid, home improvement projects I’m hyper-inspired to tackle, and left-over overwhelm from our trip to South America, I took a long hard look at myself in my shiny new earrings and said, “it’s not worth it this time.”
So today, I give you… a photo of my new fall accessories, this explanation of why you didn’t receive my usual day-by-day play-by-play on the shows, and a big sigh of relief.
I sigh of relief because I’m glad I listened to myself and resisted getting sucked into the hype. Maybe next season, hype will be my priority, and running from show to show in the snow will feel like a treat. But for now, expect a short and sweet wrap up of my favorite New York designers, and updates on the things that are actually crucial to me this month.
Like the fact that I spent my Monday getting a big fat shot in my arm at the doctor’s office, shopping for cute fall flats, and cuddling with my puppy on my mom’s carpet.
Tomorrow, back to the city, nose to the grindstone, all systems go.
It’s fall, and fall means sooo much this year. I’ll unveil all of the incredible projects and exciting, deliberate changes I’ve got in store as we progress into my favorite season.
I hope you’re all enjoying September as it careens by almost undetected. May you break out of your offices at least once or twice this week to watch the leaves float down from the trees and grab yourself a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
